Artist’s Statement

I am a contemporary realist painter who seeks to convey the truth and beauty I find in the people and things around me. My paintings try to capture a facet of my subject’s personality that is exposed in a brief moment in time. There is usually something about my subject that strikes me in a personal way, and by exploring this relationship I hope to make a connection with the viewer as well.


Bio

Lorena (Rena) Selim is an artist who lives in the Washington, D.C. area. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1975 with a degree in Art. During her time at the University, she spent a year abroad in Norway at a Folkehøgskole (Folk High School) studying fine art with a concentration in printmaking. After 30 years designing, producing, and managing museum exhibitions for the Smithsonian Institution, she began to seriously devote her efforts to painting. She has studied with Robert Liberace and Danni Dawson as well as various artists at Studio Incamminati.
